Abstract

This article reflects on the irruption of women in Cartagena through the writing of opinions and denunciations in the urban newspapers El Fígaro and El Universal that circulated in the city, from 1940 to 1950. From the selected publications, the discourses are identified that reinforced the traditional roles and/or values of these social actors as mothers, daughters or wives; also those that demanded the fight of labor rights, education and political participation; result of the incidences that the feminist movement had in the countries of the West. The primary sources reviewed are texts of the commercial press located in the Historical Archive of Cartagena and the newspaper El Universal.
