Publication and citation parameters
Publication and Citation Guidelines
To submit proposals to Revista Ciencias y Humanidades, the following parameters must be considered:
File Format
The submission must be in DOC format, with pages sized 17×23 cm and 2 cm margins.
Length
- Research Articles: Must be between 6,000 and 12,000 words.
- Reviews: Should not exceed five pages.
Preliminary Content
- Research Articles: Must include a title in Spanish and English (the latter in italics), using Times New Roman, 14 points, bold, centered, and without an initial indentation.
- Reviews: Titles must include the following information: Author(s) of the reviewed book. Book title. City: Publisher, year. Number of pages.
- Research Articles: Must include a one-paragraph abstract (maximum 250 words) in both Spanish and English, along with keywords in both languages. These sections should not have indentations.
- Author Name: Should not appear in the submission. Instead, authorship details must be included in the attached author information document submitted through the online form.
Text Formatting
The text must follow a scientific article structure:
- Abstract: Including English translation with keywords.
- Introduction: Describing, among other elements, the methodology.
- Development: Discussing key concepts, main ideas, and findings.
- Conclusion or Final Reflections
The document must have subheadings and sections to structure the text and guide the reader.
- Include a summary that provides a structured overview of the main content.
- Keywords must be listed alphabetically and addressed as concepts within the text.
- The introduction must clearly state the purpose of the article and describe the research strategy.
- Text body: Times New Roman, 11 points. Long quotations: Times New Roman, 10 points.
- Single line spacing throughout the text.
- Paragraphs must have a 0.5 cm first-line indentation and no spacing between them. For long quotations, add a blank line (10 points) above and below.
- Add a blank line (11 points) before and after headings/subheadings.
- Use simple dashes with 0.5 cm hanging indents for lists in the body text.
Block Quotations
- Direct quotations exceeding four lines must be formatted as block quotations, indented 0.5 cm on both sides, single-spaced, in 10-point font, and without quotation marks.
- For consecutive block quotations, separate them with a blank line and provide text indicating they are distinct.
Figures and Tables
(Refer to citation guidelines for details)
- All figures and tables must be legible.
- Maximum figure dimensions: width 13 cm, height 15 cm.
- Figures and tables must be numbered sequentially and centered.
- Information sources for figures and tables must be specified in footnotes following citation guidelines.
- Titles within tables (rows and columns): centered and bold.
- Table content: left-aligned.
Footnotes
- Use Arabic numerals for footnotes.
- In the main text, footnote markers precede punctuation.
- In block quotations, footnote markers follow the final punctuation mark.
- Footnotes must use 9-point font, single-spaced, with no extra spacing between entries.
- Use Ibíd. for repeated references in consecutive footnotes.
- Footnotes must only clarify italicized text added by the author of the article (Italics added by the author). Original italics from the source text require no annotation.
- Page numbers are mandatory in footnotes for paraphrased content, except for general ideas or references to an entire work.
- For multiple citations of the same source, subsequent footnotes should abbreviate as follows:
- Books: Author's Name, Two or three words of the title, page.
- Articles and chapters: Author's Name, “Two or three words of the title,” page.
References Section
- References must appear at the end of the article in Times New Roman, 11 points, single-spaced, with no extra spacing between entries, and a 0.5 cm hanging indent.
- All works cited in the article must be included alphabetically, excluding non-cited titles.
Reference Categories
- Primary Sources (bold and italicized)
- Archives (italicized)
- Interviews (italicized)
- Manuscripts (italicized)
- Multimedia (italicized)
- Press (italicized)
- Secondary Sources (bold and italicized)
Within these categories, works by the same author are arranged chronologically, from oldest to newest. Subsequent citations replace the author's name with 10 underscores:
e.g., __________. Title of the work. City: Publisher, year.
Acronyms and Abbreviations
- The first mention of an abbreviation must include its full form in parentheses.
- Acronyms should be presented in uppercase in parentheses following the full name.
- Subsequent uses in the main text may include either the full name or acronym.
Citation Guidelines
General Notes
- The name of the publisher must be written in full, both in the footnote and in the references list. For example, “Editorial Planeta” instead of “Planeta,” “Siglo XXI Editores” instead of “Siglo XXI.”
- If the city of the source is unknown, nothing should be written (it should not be replaced by the country).
- All dates must be written with two digits (01, 02, 03…).
- If a text has multiple publishers, they should be separated by a slash with a space before and after the names: University Press of New England / University of New Hampshire Press / University of Cambridge Press.
- For foreign cities, use their exonym in Spanish, if one exists and is commonly used today.
- The edition/volume number of a book should be written after the title, in regular font. In the case of the edition number, it should be written in words, as follows:

Archival Sources
For the first citation, include the full name of the archive, followed by its abbreviation and location in parentheses. For subsequent citations, only the archive abbreviation is needed. If the section and collection are the same, all information should be cited again, as follows:

Interview
Footnote: For the first citation, when the interview has no name or title, or is unpublished elsewhere, proceed as follows:
- First citation: Interview conducted by InterviewerName with IntervieweeDesignation[1], day month year, City, Country.
- Subsequent citations (if the same person conducts all interviews): IntervieweeDesignation, day month year, City, Country.
- Generally, interviews are conducted by the authors of the article. Therefore, the following note should be added on a separate line below the first citation of the interview: All interviews used in this document were conducted by the authors.
** If repeated immediately with the same date, person, and location, use Ibid. (in italics).
References: Interview conducted by InterviewerName with IntervieweeDesignation, day month year, City, Country.
*** Interviews conducted by the same person should be organized chronologically, from the oldest to the most recent. In addition, the person’s name is included only in the first reference, and for the rest, it is replaced with 10 underscores: __________, IntervieweeDesignation, day month year, City, Country.
Figures and Tables
All supporting graphic information must be categorized as either “Figure” or “Table,” choosing the category that best suits each case.
The font size should be 9 points, and below each figure or table, its number and description or title must be specified, as follows:
Figure/Table 1 (in bold). Description or title of the figure/table.
Afterward, a footnote should specify the source information. If all figures and/or tables are authored by the article’s authors, a footnote should state: All figures used in this document were created by the authors.
Videos
Footnote: First Name Last Name(s) (creator), “Title,” Publishing Organization, day month year, video, minute where the quote is extracted, URL (date of access: day month year).
References: Last Name(s), First Name (creator). “Title.” Publishing Organization. Day month year, video. URL.
- If the video is hosted on YouTube, the publishing organization should be the name of the channel that uploaded the video.
Internet Publications
Publications will be cited as specified earlier according to their type, with the URL and the date of access added at the end (the latter only for footnotes).
Example of press citation:
