This paper explores and analyzes the relationship between documentary cinema and memory in Luis Ospina’s work Adiós a Cali, made in the 1990s. The concept of ruin, based on the proposals of Ginsberg and Augé, is employed to analyze Ospina’s approach to Cali’s memory, focusing on urban ruins as one of the most perceptible testimonies of the passage of time and transformation. Furthermore, this documentary offers a dual perspective on Cali: the artists who strive to preserve the old and the demolitionists who advocate for the new. In this context, the article seeks to articulate the relationship between urban memory and the image as a historical and memory source.
